We recommend that you update your share prices regularly, either automatically or manually.

Automatic quote download

By default, security prices are updated automatically updated every 60 minutes. to be sure that this service is on:

  1. From the Quicken menu, choose Preferences...

  2. On the Connected Services tab, select the Automatically update investment quotes every 60 minutes checkbox.


On-demand quote update

If you do not want to automatically update quotes, you can opt-out of automatic quote downloads in preferences:

  1. From the Quicken menu, choose Preferences...

  2. On the Connected Services tab, deselect the Automatically update investment quotes every 60 minutes checkbox.

If you opt-out of automatic quote updates, Quicken will not attempt to download quotes and prices history when you launch Quicken.

Instead, you can go to any portfolio view and click the  button above your transaction list.

Note: If you have opted for automatic quote updates, you can still use the Update Quotes button to fetch the latest available quotes.

Manual quote update

If the security you wish to track is not available for download, you can enter quotes manually as needed on the Security List.

To enter a security price manually:

  1. In Quicken, choose Window menu > Securities.
  2. Double-click the security you wish to update. The security edit page is displayed.
  3. Select the Price History tab.
  4. Enter the updated security price information in the fields provided at the top of the page (only Closing Price is required).
  5. Select the Add button to save the price.
  6. Repeat as needed to enter multiple prices and then click Done to close the edit sheet.


Batch updates / price history import

You can import price history data from a Comma-Separated File (CSV) or rebuild a price history list from the Securities window.

To import price history from a CSV file:

  1. In Quicken, choose Window menu > Securities.
  2. Double-click the security you wish to update. The security edit page is displayed.
  3. Select the Options button and select Import history from CSV file.
  4. Follow the instructions to complete the import.

    If you are importing a large file with many years of data, this import process may take a minute or more.

Rebuild price history

  1. In Quicken, choose Window menu > Securities.
  2. Double-click the security you wish to update. The security edit page is displayed.
  3. Click the Options button and select Rebuild history.
  4. Choose the options for how to handle existing price history data.
  5. Click Rebuild.
