Use the Sh=
ort Sell transaction type to record a short sell=
transaction. A short sell is like a buy, except that instead of purchasing=
shares of a stock that you think will go up in price, you borrow shares, s=
ell them immediately, and wait for the price to go down.
When the price goes down, you buy the shares=
you've already sold (presumably at a lower price), and return the shares t=
o the broker. This is called Buy to Cover.
To record a short sell
- Select the investment account you want to use and click the =
Transactions tab.
- Click the Transactions =
span>tab and then click the New Transaction icon in the register toolbar.
- Select Short Sell =
from the Transaction Type list.
- Add the information for:=20
- Date - Enter the date of the short s=
ell.
- Security - Select the security for w=
hich you're short-selling shares.
- Total Sale - Enter the total amount =
received by short-selling the shares.
- Number of shares - Enter the number =
of shares purchased.
- Commission - Enter the amount paid t=
owards commission per share. Based on the amount entered as commission, the=
price per share is adjusted.
- Memo - Enter the note you want to as=
sociate with the transaction.
- Tags - Enter the tags that you want =
to use when searching for the transaction.
- To add an attachment, go to the Attachments=
strong> tab, click Add attachme=
nt and select the file you want to attach to the=
transaction.
- Click Save when yo=
u are done.
