Quicken Bill Pay Upgrade overview

I use Quicken Bill Pay for the Macintosh. What can I expect from the upgrade?
First, you will notice several benefits on completion of the upgrade, including shorter lead times and free 24/7 customer support. The upgrade will be handled automatically on installation of your complimentary copy of Quicken 2006.

Your upgrade package includes a temporary transition PIN, which you should use the first time through; at the end of the upgrade, Quicken 2006 will let you change this to a PIN of your choice. If you have not received your upgrade package by September 19, 2005, please call us at 1 (877) 486-8844.

Before installing Quicken 2006 to begin the upgrade, do one final download of your Quicken Bill Pay data, then make a backup copy of your Quicken data (using your existing copy of Quicken). To do this, click on the File menu and then select Save a Copy.

  1. Upgrade to Quicken for Mac 2006 using your Quicken 2006 for Mac CD-ROM.

  2. Update your Online Financial Institutions list.

Choose Online menu > Financial Institutions

    Click Update List

  3. Delete any Quicken Bill Pay items in your outbox.

  4. Update your Quicken Bill Pay account

Choose Online menu > Outbox, select Quicken Bill Pay, and click Send Now

  5. From the Account List, select a Quicken Bill Pay enabled account and click Edit. From the Pay bills online menu select, "not enabled." If your data file is ready to upgrade, Quicken will display the Upgrade window: skip to step 7. Otherwise, continue with step 6.

  6. Cancel scheduled payments, then repeat step 5 to verify you are now ready to upgrade.

  7. Click Upgrade. Quicken upgrades all accounts that use Quicken Bill Pay in this data file. You do not need to repeat this process for any other accounts.

  8. Recreate and send any scheduled payments you cancelled or deleted.

  9. You need to use your temporary PIN to access your account. As part of this step you will create a new PIN.

If you are using Quicken Bill Pay with multiple data files, you will need to upgrade each data file separately. After you upgrade your first data file, you may skip steps 4 and 6 to upgrade subsequent data files.

In a few rare instances, the Success screen displayed by the update wizard might inform you of anything it encountered during the upgrade that needs special attention, and will give you instructions on any steps you should take to handle these individually.

If you have any questions or need assistance during or after the upgrade completes, you can always contact Quicken Bill Pay support at 1-877-486-8844.

I just recently enrolled for Quicken Bill Pay for the Macintosh. What should I do?
If you enrolled for Quicken Bill Pay after August 1, 2005, this notice does not affect you. Your service will be upgraded automatically.

If you enrolled before this date, you will receive an upgrade kit by September 19, 2005. If you do not receive your kit by this date, please call us at 1 (877) 486-8844.

Before you perform the upgrade

What do I need to know about the Quicken Bill Pay upgrade?
Beginning in August and continuing through September 2005, most Quicken Bill Pay for Mac users will be sent information about the upgrade for Quicken Bill Pay. This means you'll soon enjoy many new benefits including shorter lead times for bill payments, free 24/7 customer support, better ways to track the status of your payments, and improved Web access.

To assist with the transition, Quicken for Mac users who subscribe to the Quicken Bill Pay service will be sent a complimentary copy of Quicken 2006, which includes instructions to complete the upgrade. Upon completing the upgrade steps, you will have immediate access to Quicken Bill Pay for all your accustomed transactions, accounts, and payees. You will need to complete the upgrade by October 31, 2005 to avoid disruption in your service.

You can always contact Quicken Bill Pay technical support for answers to specific questions about your upgrade at 1-877-486-8844.

What will I need to do to complete the upgrade process?
For most Quicken Bill Pay customers, the Quicken Bill Pay Update wizard will complete your upgrade to the new Quicken Bill Pay service. The Quicken Bill Pay Update wizard runs automatically the first time you use your complimentary copy of Quicken 2005. (Be sure you are connected to the Internet before starting the Quicken Bill Pay Update wizard.) Once the wizard starts, you can expect it to ask you a few questions during the upgrade process. Based on your existing account information, it will move all your existing payees, one-time payments and recurring payments to the new Quicken Bill Pay service.

In some rare instances, the Quicken Bill Pay Update wizard will complete the process but may require your attention or intervention to resolve certain issues—for example, if you canceled a payment immediately before the upgrade. If the wizard completes but displays a message about a condition it detected during the upgrade, refer to the on-line Help (in particular, review the topics in the Troubleshooting section) for suggested solutions.

Finally, in extremely unlikely instances, the Quicken Bill Pay Update wizard may be unable to successfully complete the process. If this happens, contact customer support for Quicken; you may also contact Quicken Bill Pay technical support.

What should I have on hand before starting the upgrade?
Essentially, all you'll need will be included in the upgrade package you will be sent (or may already have received). This package includes the PIN sent to you in the mail and your complimentary copy of Quicken 2005. When you install Quicken 2005, an upgrade "wizard" (similar to the wizards you're familiar with from installing Windows software) will walk you through the upgrade process. You'll need to use the PIN that came with your upgrade package the first time through; after that, you can change your PIN.

General questions about the upgrade

How much time do I have to make the upgrade to the new Quicken Bill Pay service provider?
To get the most from the upgrade, you should complete it as soon as possible after receiving the upgrade package. Quicken Bill Pay for Mac users will be sent upgrade packages beginning in August 2005, continuing through September, 2005. After upgrading, you'll have benefits including faster lead times, better ways of tracking payments, and improved Web access. You will need to complete the upgrade by October 31, 2005 to avoid disruption in your service.

I haven't used Quicken Bill Pay recently, but I might use it in the future. Will I be upgraded?
Yes, your Quicken Bill Pay account will be upgraded if your account is currently active. You'll be sent the notification package (including your complimentary copy of Quicken 2006), which will contain instructions on how to proceed. Note that if you choose to use Quicken Bill Pay in the future, you'll need to do so from Quicken 2006, not from an earlier version of Quicken.

How much should my payment lead times improve?
After upgrade, you can expect to see some payees with lead times as little as two or three days, instead of four or more as previously.

What features will be added to my service with this change?
With Quicken Bill Pay, you will have access to many new exciting features—shorter lead times and free 24/7 support. Web access will also be restored bringing you the ability to schedule recurring payments and to receive electronic bills.

I want to upgrade my Quicken Bill Pay service, but I don't want to use Quicken 2006. How can I resolve this?
At present, only Quicken 2006 supports Quicken Bill Pay for Mac. If you use Quicken 2005 for the Mac, you will need to upgrade to Quicken 2006 or 2007.

PINs and passwords

Quicken is telling me that my PIN change has failed. How can I resolve this?
In some instances, a server problem during PIN change might result in this error. If you receive this error, continue to use the PIN you were given with your upgrade documents, and try changing the PIN again later. If you cannot use the PIN, contact Quicken Bill Pay technical support and ask them to reset your PIN.

I never received my upgrade PIN (or my upgrade package was lost or damaged). What do I do?
The Quicken Bill Pay upgrade, which includes your temporary PIN, will be mailed out over a period of several weeks between August and September, 2005. Do not start the Quicken Bill Pay upgrade to convert to the new service provider (even if you have already purchased a copy of Quicken 2006) without this temporary PIN. Note that your current service will continue to be available until October 31, 2005.

If your package was damaged in transit, contact Quicken Bill Pay technical support at 1-877-486-8844 and ask them to reset your PIN.

I can't remember the PIN for my old Quicken Bill Pay account. How do I proceed?
If you have forgotten your original PIN for Quicken Bill Pay and do not use Quicken's PIN Vault, call Quicken Bill Pay technical support at (800) 462-6765. Once you receive your PIN, follow the steps provided in your upgrade package to complete the upgrade.

User IDs

Quicken is telling me that my Quicken Bill Pay customer ID is invalid. How do I resolve this?
First, make sure you are typing in the customer ID and PIN exactly as given to you. (Check the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys on your computer.) If you are certain you are typing the correct PIN (or customer ID) and the message persists, contact Quicken customer support at 1-877-486-8844.

I regularly use more than one Quicken data file. How does the upgrade affect me?
To begin, complete the Quicken Bill Pay upgrade for your primary data file. Once that is successfully completed, please repeat the same steps for all subsequent Quicken data files that use the same Quicken Bill Pay customer ID within six business days. To do this, open the Quicken data file you wish to convert, then start the Quicken Bill Pay upgrade.

When can I start using Quicken Bill Pay on the Web?
You can use Quicken Bill Pay on the Web as soon as you complete the upgrade from within Quicken. If your upgrade is interrupted or delayed for some reason, however, you will not be able to use Quicken Bill Pay on the Web until you complete the upgrade.

Payments and payees

Will this upgrade change the lead times I need to consider when scheduling a payment?
After the upgrade, many lead times will be shorter with the new Quicken Bill Pay service provider. However, at the time of the upgrade, there are some circumstances that might affect the lead time. In particular, if you have multiple payment models for the same payee, the upgrade will change the way this payee is stored, and this might affect the lead time. ("Multiple payment models for the same payee" means that you pay the same biller more than one way during the year. For example, you might have a single insurance carrier whom you pay monthly for car insurance and annually for homeowner's insurance—that's what "multiple payment models for the same payee" means.)

I sent an e-mail inquiry about a payment right before the upgrade and never received a reply. What happened?
If you sent Quicken Bill Pay a payment e-mail inquiry immediately before the upgrade, that inquiry might not be transferred along with the rest of your records.
  • One-time payments scheduled to be paid within six business days are not transitioned to the new service provider. To inquire about payments in this category, contact Quicken Bill Pay technical support at 1-800-462-6765

  • For all other payments, send a new e-mail inquiry or e-mail to Quicken Bill Pay or contact them directly at 1-877-486-8844.

After completing the upgrade

Is there anything I need to check after the upgrade?
Although the Quicken Bill Pay upgrade will transfer all your data to the new Quicken Bill Pay service, it is always a good idea to check over your information for accuracy.

Payee Information: It is a good idea to check your payee information after the upgrade, as well as checking the payee information occasionally every few months. Occasionally payees will make changes to their address, phone number, or even their account number format. This makes it necessary to check recent billing statements for the most current payee information.

Personal Information: It is also a good idea to check all of your personal information under the Administration link. Make sure your address, phone number, and email address are all entered and up to date.

Payments: Make sure to go into Payee Setup and check whether all recurring payment options are set correctly. If you need to set up a recurring payment, click on Payee Details and then click on Change Options for the Payment Options section.
